First, please accept our most sincere “thank you” for choosing this part. In your hands rests the results of a lot of hard work and commitment to standing out in a crowded aftermarket. Your choice in our products allows us to continue to work towards developing more unique and innovative solutions for your performance needs.
These instructions cover the installation of this panel in place of your factory in-dash radio unit. Our panel installs easily, but we ask you use care in the wiring of your components. Due to the many different configurations of radios, gauges, and switches, we cannot advise how to handle the wiring aspects of this installation. Consult your manufacturer’s provided instructions for best results, or choose a professional installation if you are not comfortable with automotive electrical work.
The Speed of Sound panels come with switches (in select configurations) pre-wired with leads for easy connection. These wires and switches are sufficient for low-amperage applications, but we strongly recommend the use of heavier gauge wiring and automotive relays in wiring high-amperage applications. Examples would be N2O systems, line locks, etc. Wiring diagrams for switching relays are readily available online.
To begin your installation, follow these simple steps:
1. Unscrew and remove shift knob in manual transmission cars.
2. Remove shifter bezel, lifting from the front to remove the mounting clips. No screws are holding this part; it “pops” out easily. Place aside in a safe location.
3. At the rear of the console, remove the two screws holding the floor center console section. These will be found near the hinge of the center console storage door.
4. Apply parking brake and remove the floor center console.
5. Remove the left and right “wings” on the side of radio/climate control stack. These are held in with clips only, and are freed by pulling towards the rear of the car.
6. With the side wings placed aside, remove the 6 screws holding the center instrument cover panel (trim around radio/HVAC/etc.) Disconnect all electrical connectors.
7. Remove the 4 screws securing the radio and remove. Disconnect all electrical connectors and antenna cable.
8. Use the supplied spacers for the LOWER two radio screws when installing the SOS radio panel. You may use your OEM radio screws to install our product.
9. Reverse the procedure to complete the installation once your wiring is complete.
We hope you enjoy your new part, and want to extend our thanks to you again for choosing us. Your Mustang now has a very functional quality part, custom made to your requirements.
