Step 1: Remove Factory Air Intake Assembly
Removal of the factory air intake assembly is straightforward. Start by removing the surrounding plastic covers and placing them somewhere out of the way so as not to cause any damage and provide ample working space.
Using basic tools, disconnect the intake from the throttle body, unclip the mass airflow (MAF) sensor and disconnect the breather hose. Remove the factory air filter and air box, revealing an opening to the lower fender wall. This is where your new air filter will be placed in order to draw in cooler air.
Step 2: Installing the HPE Cold Air Intake Tube
The HPE Cold Air Intake inlet tube come in two pieces, connecting with a supplied silicone coupler and band clamps (this is also how it connects to the throttle body). It will create an “S” that dips into the fender wall where the air filter will be attached from below the vehicle. (Note: Photos show intake with custom finish.)
Remove the hose grommet from the factory intake and place in upper intake tube. Use the supplied hose extension to bridge gap:
At the throttle body, ensure all wires and hoses are properly routed and out of the way.
Step 3: Installing the High Flow Air Filter
Note: Follow any oiling instructions supplied with the K&N conical filter before installing.
To install the air filter, you must remove the plastic push pins holding the splash shield / brake duct in place on the underside of the car. A set of roll-on ramps or floor jack can be used to give you enough room to work under the vehicle. WARNING: Ensure the lifted vehicle is safely secured before performing any work underneath it.
Once the pins are removed, the shield can be pulled back to expose the space needed to attach and secure the filter to the tube using the supplied band clamp.
Once the filter is in place, reinstall the push pins to secure the shield.
Step 4: Wrap Up
Lower the vehicle and make sure all clamps, electrical connectors and hoses are tightly secured. When replacing your factory engine bay covers, you will leave off the small portion that once attached to the factory air boxStep 3: Installing the High Flow Air Filter
