Using Audi-specific radio removal keys, remove the radio from the dash by pulling toward you after the four locks have been disengaged. The radio fits very tightly into the opening even when the locks are released. Disconnect all plugs from the back of the factory radio, remove and set aside. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR RADIO IS NOT CODED OR THAT YOU HAVE THE CODE BEFORE

DISCONNECTING POWER.
Remove the climate controls by pressing on the back of the housing. The climate controls will unsnap and slide toward you. Be careful not to scratch the ashtray door while removing.
Disconnect all plugs from the back of the climate control housing. MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLE’S IGNITION REMAINS TURNED OFF UNTIL THESE ARE RECONNECTED LATER. Unsnap the trim around the shifter by lifting up firmly on the back and front of the trimpiece until the clips release.
With the shift boot unsnapped and lifted out of the way, you will see two 8mm screws holding the ashtray carrier in place. Remove these and set aside. You will now be able to lift the ashtray carrier out of its location. Make sure to disconnect the lighting connector (and the cigarette lighter connector – B7 only) on the backside of the ashtray carrier to remove fully.
