The VX software platform boasts an impressive list of features giving a new level of user adjustment. This flexibility allows the tuner to have complete control over the engine management system. VX software employs high resolution fuel and ignition tables with configurable load and RPM centres. When coupled with up to six dimensional fuel and ignition mapping, barometric pressure compensation and intake air temperature correction this gives an unprecedented level of tuning accuracy. All Vi-PEC VX ECUs are in field upgradeable, there is no need to return the unit for software updates.

Mikuni 30-32 DIDTA carburetor is used on Mirage models; the 32-35 DIDTA on Cordia, Mitsubishi Pickups, Montero and Tredia models. These 2-barrel, 2-stage carburetors use primary and secondary circuits. Carburetor components include conventional accelerator pump, vacuum-actuated secondary throttle diaphragm, sub-EGR valve system, fully automatic choke, coasting air valve, fuel cut-off solenoid, anti-overfill device, and air switching valve. A jet air control valve, bowl vent valve and dashpot are used on all manual transmission models except Pickups.

With the LANCER EVOLUTION X, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) adopted its first ever trunk-mounted battery with a view to delivering superior performance through a reduction in the proportion of vehicle weight borne by the front wheels. Since the battery is the central part of the power-supply circuitry, changing its location had a significant effect on the electrical systems. Nevertheless, MMC was able to mount the battery in the trunk while ensuring component commonality with the GALANT FORTIS (the vehicle on which the LANCER EVOLUTION X is based). An overview is given in this paper.

The steering system consists of solid steering shaft with a lower joint assembly. Stealth and 3000GT models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) that includes an air bag and clockspring located in the steering column. WARNING: On Stealth and 3000GT, before doing any repairs, disconnect and shield battery ground. Disconnect SRS connector at control unit. Use caution when working around steering column (air bag could deploy).

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has developed a rain-light sensor that controls the auto- light system and the rain-sensitive wiper system. It is installed in the new GALANT FORTIS. The rain-light sensor controls the headlamps and windshield wipers, sending an activation request to ETACS(1) (Electronic Time and Alarm Control System). This data consists of vehicle information from ETACS, ambient light intensity, front light intensity and raindrop detection. Regarding the auto-light function, the rain-light sensor distinguishes between entering a tunnel and passing under a bridge, using front and ambient illumination sensors. It prevents the headlamps from blinking when the vehicle passes under a bridge. The rain-sensitive wipers have newly designed lenses to ensure uniform distribution of sensitivity for raindrops and improve the timing for the first wipe when there are fewer raindrops on the windshield glass.

INSPECTION SERVICE POINTS FOR A BLOWN FUSE Remove the fuse and measure the resistance between the load side of the fuse and ground. Set the switches of all circuits which are connected to this fuse to a condition of continuity. If the resistance is almost 0 Ω at this time, there is a short somewhere between these switches and the load. If the resistance is not 0 Ω, there is no short at the present time, but a momentary short has probably caused the fuse to blow.
