Preparing to Install
Installing the Kit
• Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental engagement of starter motor.
• Drain coolant from system
• If your A/C is intact and charged it must be evacuated. This is best done by a professional garage with proper recycling equipment
Photo-1: Make sure the water pump mounting surfaces are clean and free of old gasket material. Using silicon sealer and new gaskets install the Water Pump (P171) to the block using (2) 3⁄8 x 21⁄4″ SHCS (S260) in the two lower water pump holes and one 3⁄8 x 11⁄2″ SHCS (S250) in the upper center hole
• Remove the existing alternator, air conditioning compressor and associated brackets.
• Remove all pulleys and water pump.
• Remove all traces of old gasket and sealer with gasket scraper and steel wool pad.
• Clean threads in block by chasing with appropriate thread chasers.
For Kits 40440 with Remote Power Steering Option
Photo 3 Mount Remote pump (P315) to the Power Steering Bracket (13134-A) with (3) M8×1.25 x 25mm SHCS (S551). Mount the Power Steering Bracket / Pump assembly to the backside of the Front Main Bracket using (2) 3⁄8 x 1″ SHCS (S248) through Main Bracket, Power Steering Bracket and into the 2″ Stainless Steel spacer (S771).
Photo 3a For kits without power steering or kit #40445 with Saginaw pump Mount the (S771 ) into the main bracket lower Drivers side Center hole with a (1) 3⁄8 x 1″ SHCS (S248) as shown. use (1) 3⁄8 x 1″ SHCS (S248) and secure with 3⁄8″ x 16 nuts (S620) to fill in lower hole
