The information contained in this TSB supersedes TSB No. ST001-06. • Applicability has been updated to include 2005 – 2006 model year Avalon and 2006 model year Highlander HV. • Production Change information has been removed. • The Introduction, Warranty Information, Parts Information, and Repair Procedure sections have been updated to reflect removal, lubrication, and reinstallation of the steering intermediate shaft instead of replacement. TSB No. ST001-06 is Obsolete and any printed versions should be discarded. Be sure to review the entire content of this service bulletin before proceeding.

Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
4. Recover the A/C system. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00.

Installation Step:
1. Begin by installing the pushrod adjuster into the rocker arm. The cupped side faces down and is where the pushrod makes contact. Screw the adjuster in until only the first thread is shown on the bottom side of the rocker arm.
2. Install the pushrod adjuster jam nut on the topside of the rocker arm, but do not tighen.
3. Assemble an exhaust and intake rocker set by using the intermediate shaft, which goes into each rocker shaft. The two bores for the shaft will be facing each other, making an intake and exhaust pair for each cylinder.
4. Install the stepped stand on the bottom side of each rocker arm and insert the socket (Allen) head bolts through the assembly from the top.
