how to properly determine the main bearing bore diameter on 1993-2002 Ford 2.5L VIN B and KL engines. This engine is made by Mazda and used in the Probe and 626 car models. It appears some previously published information may have been inaccurate. Many service specifications have listed a housing bore diameter .002˝ smaller than it should be.

Removal of air intake plenum:
First of all, the task at hand is really easier than it appears. The only thing is… it takes time. If you know nothing about cars or what things are under the hood, I suggest you take a look at figure 18 and see if this is comprehendible to you. If it is and you have the tools and feel comfortable, please proceed. If not, I suggest you find a qualified mechanic instead of doing it yourself. The plenum itself is actually very easy to unbolt, only 13 bolts & nuts hold it in place. (fig. 19) What makes it complicated is all the other stuff you have to unbolt and move out of the way so your plenum is free to completely flip up and give you full access to the sparkplugs.

Installation by a trained mechanic is recommended
Step 1:Position vehicle on a flat surface and lift vehicle by the frame so that the front wheels are off the ground. Use a floor jack and jack stands or a (2) two post lift if available. Next, locate the torsion key at the rear of the torsion bar under the cab of the vehicle. (Insert A)
Note: Prior to lifting the vehicle it is recommended that you measure the stock height of the vehicle so that you have a base line to gauge the height of the vehicle. Measure the vehicle from the bottom of the wheel to the lip of the fender. (Insert B)
