If like me, you forgot to change the timing belt at the last service and it went “ping” while driving to the shops, you may wish to invest in new engine, or at the very least a few new valves, rockers and possibly the cylinder head… If you are sensible and know that it needs changing, then this little guide is for you. Applies to the 1.4 and 1.6 CVH or PTE engine, but can be applied generally to other models too. Pictures and references to Haynes are made in square brackets where appropriate!

Before Installation
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the facotry ECU and disconnect the ECU harness connectors. Refer to the ECU location Chart on the back of this manual.
3. Follow the wire diagram for the specific vehicle list on the back of this manual, and connect each harnesses.
4. Inspect all connections and reconnect the ECU harness connector. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

Installation
(1) Disconnect the vacuum hose, recirculation hose and remove the factory air bypass valve.
(2) Mount the GReddy Blow Off Valve on to the supplied adaptor using the provided gasket and hardware
(3) Remove the rubber sleeve off from the factory bypass valve and install it on to the GReddy Blow off valve adaptor.
Venting out to atmosphere Type
(1) Remover the plastic pipe out of the factory suction pipe and install the provided aluminum plug with factory hose clamp.
(2) Install the GReddy Blow Off Valve as shown using the factory hose clamps.
(3) Reconnect the vacuum using the factory hose clamps.
(4) Stick the emblem to the top housing.

Example: “31L8” date on label means “31st, December, 2008”.

This performance kit installation steps on Audi A3: 1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the vehicle battery. 2. Remove the plastic engine cover. (Fig. 1) 3. Unclip & remove the engine breather hose from the intake pipe. (Fig. 2) 4. Remove the small vacuum hose from under the breather hose on the intake pipe. Follow the vacuum hose & remove the hose from the inlet manifold. Blank off the pipe on the manifold using the small rubber cap supplied. (Fig. 3) 5. Remove the small rubber hose from the side of the intake pipe as shown. (Fig. 4) 6. Unclip & remove the auxiliary air pump feed pipe from the air box as shown. (Fig. 5) 7. Unclip & remove the plastic intake pipe from the throttle housing. (Fig. 6) 8. Remove the air box securing bolt & carefully pull the air box assembly out of its mounting grommets. 1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Remove the plastic cover from the air box assembly.
3. Remove the air box feed pipe from between the air box lid & slam panel intake scoop.
4. Unclip & remove the electrical harness plug from the MAS (Mass Air Sensor).
5. Unclip & remove the intake hose from the MAS.
6. Unclip the 3 hoses from the top of the air box assembly.
7. Unbolt & remove the two ignition amplifiers from the top of the air box lid.
