How-To Guide on replacing your spark plugs and spark plug wires on Mazda RX-8 vehicles. RX-8. While changing spark plugs on most vehicles is an easy task for some, there are some vehicles that are just a little different and make you go: umm…. Well, the RX-8 is definitely one of those vehicles! The RX-8 is an amazing car; it has stellar handling, a lightweight chassis, good looks, four doors, and last but not least a Mazda exclusive rotary engine. While there are a few different vehicle layouts, such as: Front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive, front engine, mid engine, rear engine, they all typically utilize a piston driven internal combustion engine. That is where the RX-8 differs. Like its RX-7 predecessors, the Mazda RX-8 employs a unique style of engine called a Rotary, invented by German engineer Felix Wankel in the (more…)

For bolts into aluminum, use light oil, or anti-seize, not Loctite! For bolts into the steel bracket, use Loctite.
Check for free movement of the lever and pulley after bolting to the bracket! If the lever sticks at any point in it’s travel, check the bracket for any weld spatter, or plating material, and use a Dremel to smooth the area. If the pulley pin is rubbing, it may be pressed in too far. Support the back side of the pulley, and press or tap it in with a hammer, until it has clearance.

Incorrect or out of phase engine timing can result in damage to the valves. The Tool Connection cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by using these tools in anyway.
Instruction for 1.3 Litre chain driven engine
• Remove the blanking plugs from the camshaft housing and install the alignment tools A with the parallel flats engaging into the camshaft grooves horizontally. Tighten the large Handle to secure in position.
• Install the crankshaft Locking Pin C in the bell housing hole.
• Install the tensioner Locking Pin B before carrying out engine repairs.

The VS171 twin cam setting/locking tool kit has been designed for use on multi-valve engines (twin cam) to lock the camshafts, which are under pressure from compressed valve springs, from rotating out of their timing positions when the timing belt is removed. If the camshafts are allowed to move from their timing position possible damage to the inlet and exhaust valves may occur due to contact with the piston crown. By locking the camshafts in position it will allow easier replacement of the drive belt and reduce the risk of incorrect valve timing from taking place. The kit includes camshaft locking pins which can also cover specific crankshaft/flywheel locking applications.

For rear disc pad removal and installation, DO NOT disconnect brake hose from caliper (wire aside). Replace all pads on an axle if wear indicator on any pad contacts rotor or if pad is worn to within .03″ (.8 mm) of pad backing.
Removal (”A”, “B”, “C”, “K” & “U” Series)
1. Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Using “C” clamp, compress caliper piston until it bottoms out in its bore.

Removal 1. Remove the securing spring (3) carefully so that it does not deform. See Fig. 49 . 2. Remove the protective caps (1) from the two locating pins (2). See Fig. 49 . 3. Remove the locating pins using a 7 mm hex socket. 4. Remove the brake caliper from the holder. 5. Remove the brake pads. See Fig. 50 .

Instructions:
1. Remove the stock GM 245mm impeller hub by boring a 3.380″/3.385″ diameter hole on center in the stock GM 245mm impeller (see Figure 1).
2. Install the Sonnax CH-90CM-27 impeller hub from the outside. Weld around the OD of the impeller hub, making sure it is centered in the impeller. This weld must be leak-proof (see Figure 2).
3. Once the impeller hub is fitted, fixture the impeller assembly in the lathe. Turn the lip of the impeller so that it is 3.80″ from the end of the impeller hub. Then turn the OD down to 10.150″/10.145″ diameter, .40″ from the end (see Figure 3).
4. Install the adapter ring on the impeller assembly as shown in Figure 4 and weld around the OD of the impeller. This weld must be leak-proof.

The following instructions begin after the timing cover and old timing set have been removed.
Installing the timing set and degreeing the camshaft will be easier if you loosen the rocker arms so that the camshaft can turn freely. You should be able to turn the camshaft by hand. Make sure that the engine mounting surfaces and your new timing set have been thoroughly cleaned with a good solvent. If you are using a timing set with three keyways, select the appropriate keyway for your camshaft timing specifications. COMP Cams ® recommends the standard timing position for most applications. This position uses the round or “O” timing and keyway marks. Standard Timing Location: This is the same as original O.E.M. setting. Use keyway and crankshaft gear tooth marked “O”.

General Guide – Setting & Locking FIAT TWIN CAM engines. Timing belt replacement on 1.6, 1.8 16v. and 2.0 20v. Fiat twin camshaft engines is carried out with the crankshaft at TDC, established by using VS1404 TDC Position Tool and a DTI (Fig.1), to determine the piston position in No.1 cylinder, and then by checking that all timing marks align. NOTE: To avoid kit contents duplication, VS1404 TDC Position Tool is not included in individual kits but is available as an Associated Tool. It is used on Fiat 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 multi-valve engines.
