Some specific model year 2009 – 2010 Altima and Maxima vehicles may have been built with front strut mounting insulators that were not manufactured to specification. The strut mounting insulators on these specific vehicles may crack. To remedy this potential condition Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the strut mounting insulators with new ones at no charge for parts or labor.

This manual is divided into different areas to assist you with your installation and operation of your steering box support system. This product is not a replacement for a new steering box and/or ball joints, but it will aid in reducing the stress placed on the steering box and associated wear. All steering components should be checked and replaced if necessary prior to addition of the steering box support. Installation should occur on a vehicle properly secured to prevent rolling. Application of lubrication at regular chassis lube intervals will promote bearing life.

Read these installation instructions before starting:
1. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, then raise the car and place on safety stands. NEVER work under a car supported only by a floor jack! Remove the front wheels.
2. Remove the three (3) plastic screws which attach the wheel-well inner plastic – both sides. (Photo A)
3. Remove the two (2) sheet metal screws from the plastic panel ahead of the wheel-well to gain access to forward subframe nuts. (Photo B & C)
4. Unscrew the two (2) 15mm head securing bolts from the left end of the steering rack using a 30″ extension and universal joint. (Access these bolts as shown in Photos D & E. Guide the socket extension through the opening as shown and have an assistant position the socket head onto the bolt.) This process allows access to the steering rack bolts and avoids undue stress on the steering column during the following steps.

Installation Procedure:
Step 1: Prior to lifting the vehicle it is recommended that you measure the stock height so that you have a base line measurement. Measure from the bottom of the wheel to the lip of the fender, as in Insert A. Position truck on a flat surface and lift vehicle by the frame so that the front wheels are off the ground. Use a floor jack and jack stands or a (2) two post lift if available.
Step 2: Remove the upper sway bar end link hardware, the lower strut mount hardware, the three (3) nuts on the upper strut mount. Loosen and remove the upper ball joint nut. Separating the ball joint from the spindle may require the use of a hammer or gear puller if available. Once separated remove the strut from vehicle. Also remove the brake caliper and secure it as to not overstretch the rubber brake line.

1. Raise and support vehicle at a safe, comfortable working height. Let the front suspension hang freely
2. Remove oem coil spring and shock absorber. Refer to a factory service manual for proper disassembly procedure.
3. Due to the Shockwave bellow being larger than the coil spring you will have to open the coil spring pocket as shown by the white circle in the picture. You will also need to remove the lip of the coil spring retainer and cut between the large holes as shown in the picture. This is best done with a plasma cutter, cutoff wheel, or saw.

1. Raise and support vehicle at a safe, comfortable working height. Let the front suspension hang freely
2. Remove oem coil spring and shock absorber. Refer to factory service manual for proper disassembly procedure.
3. Remove the factory shock nut from the top of the lower control arm. This is best done with a chisel and then ground smooth.
4. The factory bump stop must also be removed. It has a nut on the bottom of the arm.
5. The upper coil spring retainer needs to be taken out as well. It is secured with rivets that need to be ground down or drilled out from the top. Some cars may have bolts instead of rivets. Note: If this is not done the top of the Shockwave will come in contact with the retainer and permanently damage the Shockwave.
