This bulletin supersedes TSB 06-40-005 to include a procedure for GDS. CAUTION: Before replacing a transaxle to improve a shift quality condition, follow this procedure to reset and relearn the adaptive learning.
DESCRIPTION: The PCM or TCM contains logic to adjust solenoid duty and line pressure as needed to compensate for normal clutch wear over the life of the transaxle. This bulletin provides the procedures necessary to reset (erase) and “relearn” the PCM/TCM adaptive values. After the following repairs have been completed, the PCM/TCM adaptive values must be reset in order to provide optimum shift quality:

Tests/Procedures: 1. Ground the Violet/Yellow wire (disarm circuit) that goes to either front door and the theft alarm module. Have the keys out of the ignition and all doors closed when grounding the wire. This should disarm the theft alarm system and prevent the theft alarm from arming. 2. Check that the interior lights do not stay on due to the wire being grounded. If they do, the illuminated entry relay will need to be removed or another method of disabling the theft alarm will have to be used. 3. Another method if the theft alarm module is faulty would be to disconnect the module and replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a new one.

Tests/Procedures: 1. Question the customer. Check if he/she started the car, cranked the heater fan on full and went back inside as the car warmed up on a sub-zero morning. Engine temperature rise did not occur at the rate the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) expected. 2. Coolant concentrations of greater than 50/50 can cause this code. Tech Tips: This code will set if the heater system is pulling too much heat from the engine as it is warming up. Camshaft Locking Tools
Application : 2002–2003 3.2L VIN N used in Cadillac CTS
1997–2001 3.0L VIN R used in Cadillac Catera
2001–2007 3.0L VIN R used in Saturn L300 & LW300
1996–2003 3.0L used in Saab 9.5
NOTE: No. 536954 and No. 536595 are to be used together.
1. To ensure the valves will not hit the pistons, the crankshaft must NOT be at top dead center (TDC) at the start of this procedure.
2. Turn the camshaft and drive sprocket to align the timing mark on the sprocket with the timing mark on the timing cover.
3. Install the No. 536594 and No. 536595 locking tools to hold the camshafts in time.
4. Rotate the crankshaft to TDC #1
