The following instructions begin after the timing cover and old timing set have been removed.
Installing the timing set and degreeing the camshaft will be easier if you loosen the rocker arms so that the camshaft can turn freely. You should be able to turn the camshaft by hand. Make sure that the engine mounting surfaces and your new timing set have been thoroughly cleaned with a good solvent. If you are using a timing set with three keyways, select the appropriate keyway for your camshaft timing specifications. COMP Cams ® recommends the standard timing position for most applications. This position uses the round or “O” timing and keyway marks. Standard Timing Location: This is the same as original O.E.M. setting. Use keyway and crankshaft gear tooth marked “O”.

Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove P/S reservoir from radiator shroud. Remove upper fan shroud. Remove serpentine belt.
2. Remove generator with brackets and lay aside. Using Hub Puller (J-24420-B), remove crankshaft pulley hub. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN. Remove front timing case cover bolts, and cover.
3. Using large screwdriver, remove crankshaft front seal. DO NOT distort timing gear cover during seal removal.
CAUTION: To prevent oil leakage, coat crankshaft pulley hub keyway with RTV sealant before installation.

Fluidampr Installation Instructions

Tools & Procedures
• EQUIPMENT: Damper Installation Tool
• Anti-seize Compound
• The Proper Key
• Whenever it’s necessary to remove a vibration damper, only a proper puller tool should be used.
• DO NOT use a hammer during installation.
• Honing or machining Fluidampr bore is not recommended. A diametrical press fit of .0005″ to .0015″ is recommended for proper damper function. (Aluminum Fluidampr p/n’s 630102, 630112, 630602, 660202, 720102, 720112, 740102, 730602 & 740112 require a diametrical press fit of .001″ to .0025″.) If a micrometer is available, you may want to measure the crank snout and the inner bore of Fluidampr to assure proper fit.

Camshaft Locking Tools
Application : 2002–2003 3.2L VIN N used in Cadillac CTS
1997–2001 3.0L VIN R used in Cadillac Catera
2001–2007 3.0L VIN R used in Saturn L300 & LW300
1996–2003 3.0L used in Saab 9.5
NOTE: No. 536954 and No. 536595 are to be used together.
1. To ensure the valves will not hit the pistons, the crankshaft must NOT be at top dead center (TDC) at the start of this procedure.
2. Turn the camshaft and drive sprocket to align the timing mark on the sprocket with the timing mark on the timing cover.
3. Install the No. 536594 and No. 536595 locking tools to hold the camshafts in time.
4. Rotate the crankshaft to TDC #1

This timing belt installation is supported for Lexus 3.0L V6 – 1999-03 ES300. Removal (ES 300)
1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right side front wheel. Remove right fender apron seal. Remove accessory drive belts. Lower vehicle. Disconnect engine coolant reservoir hose from water outlet. Disconnect ground strap connectors. 2. Remove engine moving control rod and engine mounting bracket No. 2 (right side), located near timing belt cover. Remove generator-to-engine bracket for access to timing belt covers. 3. Using Pulley Holder (09213-54015) or equivalent and Handle (09330-00021) or equivalent, hold crankshaft pulley. REMOVAL INTERFERENCE ENGINE. In the event of Urning belt failure, it is probable that valve to piston damage has occurred. A compression test should be carried out on all cylinders before removing the cylinder head. 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2. Remove: – alternator, – RH engine mounting bracket, – spark plugs. 3. Disconnect the engine wire from alternator bracket and adjusting bar. 4. Remove the No.2 timing belt cover. 5. Turn the crankshaft pulley (clockwise) and align its groove with the timing mark “O’ on the No.1 timing belt cover. 6.
