1. Temporarily remove the grille and permanently remove the airdam. 2. Disconnect the fog lamp wiring if applicable and then remove the plastic bumper cover from the bumper. 3. Remove the bolts that attach the bumper from the end of the frame rails. 4. Install the hanger plates (Ref 7 & 8). Note: On the drivers side make sure not to pinch the power steering hoses and airbag sensor wire. The top plate on the rear of the hanger plate must install above the hoses. Loosely install the u-bolt (Ref 6) with washers (Ref 11) and nuts (Ref 13) thru the top rear plate and use the bumper bolt temporarily to hold the front of the hanger plate in position. Finger tighten the fasteners until all undercarriage parts are in place. 5. The MSD Digital DIS-2 Plus Ignition can be used on 4-cylinder engines equipped with two dual output coils. The DIS-4 Plus Ignition can be used on 4, 6 or 8-cylinder engines equipped with up to four dual output coils. The Ignitions will accept trigger inputs from electronic distributorless type ignition systems.
NOTE: It is recommended that you have the Service Manual and wiring diagram for your vehicle before beginning the installation of the MSD DIS Ignition.

1. Open black box (part #1), set dip switches according to sticker (part #10). Apply sticker to top.
2. Attach black box (part #1) to aluminum plate (part #5) with bolts and washers (parts #11).
3. On 1970-78 models, remove mechanical advance unit. For 1979-1980 models, remove bean can.

This procedure is required if keys are lost, a replacement Engine Management ECM is fitted, new or additional ignition (transponder) keys needs to be matched to the vehicle. When transponder (ignition) keys are matched to the vehicle the key data is stored in the memory of the immobiliser ECU and used to recognise and validate the ignition keys. The matching of ignition (transponder) keys to a particular vehicle requires the use of the following functions: Login ECM and Adaptation. The Login ECM function enables the technician to enter the 5 or 7 digit login code. A valid login code must be entered in order to program new ignition (transponder) keys for all VAG cars. The Adaptation function enables the technician to adapt new and additional ignition (transponder) keys.
