Shift linkage, adjusting Transmission in neutral Loosen clamp (arrow). Joint between selector rod and selector lever must move easily Remove shift knob, boot, and frame => page 34-21. Insert gauge 3104. Gauge must not jam Align selector rod/selector lever (with transmission in neutral) and tighten clamp. CAUTION! DO NOT put components under stress. Operation Selector lever resting in 3rd/4th-gear plane with transmission in neutral Shift through all gears. They must engage smoothly without hanging up. 1. Remove the stock shift knob and boot cover.
2. Carefully slide an exacto knife under the clip on the right side of the assembly to remove it. CAUTION : Be extremely careful in this step, if the knife is torqued too hard the blade could break and become a dangerous projectile.
3. Insert a flat head screw driver into the gap created by the exacto knife to pry the clip off.
4. Use a punch to drive out the pin on the opposite side of the shifter. Tap lightly with a hammer until the pin is driven out of the assembly.
5. Remove the four bolts securing the plastic assembly to the chassis.

1. Carefully unscrew the shift knob by rotating it counter clockwise.
2. Remove the 2 screws on either side of the console.
3. Remove shift boot and plastic cover by gently squeezing the insides of the cup holders and lifting.
4. Remove the plastic cover around the handbrake by carefully lifting up on it.
5. Remove the 2 screws in the base of the console.
6. Remove the 2 screws at the back of the center console and lift it out of the car. Put it in a safe place for re-installation later.
