The evaporative emission system is designed to prevent the escape of fuel vapors from the fuel
system. Leaks in the system, even small ones, can allow fuel vapors to escape into the
atmosphere. Government regulations require onboard Testing to make sure that the evaporative
(EVAP) system is functioning properly. The leak detection system tests for EVAP system leaks
and blockage. It also performs self-diagnostics. During self-diagnostics, the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) first checks the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for electrical and mechanical faults.
If the first checks pass, the PCM then uses the LDP to seal the vent valve and pump air into the
system to pressurize it. If a leak is present, the PCM will continue pumping the LDP to replace
the air that leaks out. The PCM determines the size of the leak based on how fast/long it must
pump the LDP as it tries to maintain pressure in the system.

Common Problems
1. I am having trouble connecting with an ‘02 Audi A4.
This vehicle does pose connection issues with most aftermarket tools. Please continue to retry the connection.
2. I am having trouble getting good data rates on a specific controller.
Audi/VW consolidated sensors into groups. Some sensor groups can update at slower rates then others. Typically, this is text-based sensors on non-critical models like Telephone or Climate control. To resolve this select only those sensors that are important to you until you reach a saturation point for the data throughput.

Preparing Vertical Side Panels for the Panzer Plate
1. First, on level ground, raise the front of the car evenly. To do this, you may choose to drive the car onto ramps, jack the car up and secure with two jack stands or use a car lift. If using jack stands or ramps be sure to chock the rear wheels and place the car in gear and firmly apply the handbrake. You should also wear safety goggles during this entire procedure.
2. Once the car is safely raised, remove the Original Equipment Audi plastic belly pan if your car still has one. Next, on the driver side, remove the rear T25 Torx screw from the tail end of the plastic vertical engine bay side panel. In order for the Panzer skid plate to fit, the mounting spot on the subframe where the side panel attaches must not have a Torx screw or side panel attached to it. Retain the T25 Torx screws for the final skid plate install.
