NOTE: No. 536954 and No. 536595 are to be used together.
1. To ensure the valves will not hit the pistons, the crankshaft must NOT be at top dead center (TDC) at the start of this procedure.
2. Turn the camshaft and drive sprocket to align the timing mark on the sprocket with the timing mark on the timing cover.
3. Install the No. 536594 and No. 536595 locking tools to hold the camshafts in time.
4. Rotate the crankshaft to TDC #1

The Fiat 1.3JTD Multijet 16v range of engines are all twin camshaft, common rail diesels. The chain drive connects crankshaft to exhaust camshaft, which is in turn connected by rear gears to the inlet camshaft. There are two kits of timing tools covering these engines. The kit required depends upon the level of repair work being undertaken on the engine.
VS4885: For straightforward checking and setting of camshaft/crankshaft timing.
VS4880: For locking and setting engine timing during engine / cylinder head overhaul – engine in-situ or removed from the vehicle.
NOTE: VS4880 Kit includes the timing tools included in VS4885 Kit.

VS131 Setting/Locking Tool Kit includes the Camshaft Setting Tool to ‘lock’ the camshaft in its correct timing position, a Crankshaft Locking Pin and Injection Pump Locking Pin. Additionally the kit includes the essential Timing Adjustment Assembly required to adjust and fix pump timing/cam sprocket position during the engine timing procedure. The correct engine ‘timing’ position will need to be re-established whenever service work requiring cylinder head removal, camshaft/valve train adjustment, or major engine repair has been carried out.

The VS130 Setting and Locking Tool Kit includes all the tools required to maintain the crankshaft gear and camshaft sprockets at TDC for service work requiring timing belt removal, renewal and installation on the Ecotec V6 multi-valve engine. The kit includes the essential timing gauge for
checking camshaft sprocket timing mark alignment during installation of the timing belt.
WARNING! Incorrect installation of the timing belt/engine timing positioning will result in engine damage.

General Guide – Setting & Locking FIAT TWIN CAM engines. Timing belt replacement on 1.6, 1.8 16v. and 2.0 20v. Fiat twin camshaft engines is carried out with the crankshaft at TDC, established by using VS1404 TDC Position Tool and a DTI (Fig.1), to determine the piston position in No.1 cylinder, and then by checking that all timing marks align. NOTE: To avoid kit contents duplication, VS1404 TDC Position Tool is not included in individual kits but is available as an Associated Tool. It is used on Fiat 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 multi-valve engines.

For those of you that have not come across or had the privilege of working on the Ford 4.0L SOHC cam engine you are about to get a baptism in its proliferation in the timing components used. Now before you go off and wonder why I am even trying to tell you about these, know this there are none available in the aftermarket (or at least not that I was able to find). You can buy tensioners, guides and chains but gears are not available from the aftermarket and as you see the proliferation you will understand why. So you will either have to purchase them new from Ford or you are going to reclaim those that are not worn or damaged.

The VS171 twin cam setting/locking tool kit has been designed for use on multi-valve engines (twin cam) to lock the camshafts, which are under pressure from compressed valve springs, from rotating out of their timing positions when the timing belt is removed. If the camshafts are allowed to move from their timing position possible damage to the inlet and exhaust valves may occur due to contact with the piston crown. By locking the camshafts in position it will allow easier replacement of the drive belt and reduce the risk of incorrect valve timing from taking place. The kit includes camshaft locking pins which can also cover specific crankshaft/flywheel locking applications.

When installing the timing belt, be sure to align all alignment marks on the belt with corresponding marks on the sprokets. If incorrectly installed, interference between pistons and valves may occur.
Timing Belt Removal
1. Remove timing belt guide. (MT vehicles only)
2. If alignment mark (a) and/or arrow mark (which indicates rotation direction) on timing belt fade away, put new marks before removing timing belt as shown in procedures below.

Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove engine under cover.
2. Lower vehicle. Remove radiator coolant reservoir, and set aside. Remove electric cooling fan
and radiator shroud.
3. On Impreza and Forester, remove accessory drive belt cover. On all models, remove accessory
drive belts.
4. Hold crankshaft pulley stationary, and remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove
crankshaft pulley. Remove timing belt covers.

The GMRC-03 is designed to be used in Cadillac’s that do not have Onstar or amplified systems. It will retain the warning chimes that are lost when the factory radio is removed. The GMRC-03 will also provide a 12 volt switched accessory wire for proper radio operation. *Note: The GMRC-03 can be used in Cadillac’s that come with a factory amplifier; however the factory amplifier must be bypassed and the speaker wires on the GMRC-03 must not be used. Running new wires to the speakers is recommended. If the Cadillac also has Onstar, that feature will be lost.
