For years I’ve tinkered with electronic projects at home. Two things have started to impact the fun: a harder time focusing up close (since I turned 50) and the fact that parts are getting smaller. One way around this is to concentrate on physically larger projects—like antennas and related items. I needed a simple antenna mount that could easily attach to my new Volkswagen Beetle without drilling holes. I wanted this antenna mount to support most mobile HF antennas, especially a Hamstick or Carolina Bug Catcher, since these are my current antennas. Additionally, I wanted the mount to include internal capacitive matching which is normally required for short antennas.

1. Remove bumper from bumper brackets. Retain fasteners.
2. Remove bumper brackets from frame. Diesel and V10 applications: On these applications you must first remove the top two intercooler fasteners. Then push intercooler up and out to provide clearance to remove bumper bracket bolt assembly.
Retain fasteners.

Read instructions before assembling. Fasteners should be finger tight until instructed to tighten according to the torque chart. Use standard methods and practices when attaching snowplow including proper personal protective safety equipment.

1. Unplug all lights and harnesses connected to factory bumper and remove from truck frame.
2. Remove factory tow frame to install new Top Gun rear bumper. In order to remove tow frame, the bed of the truck has to be loosened on lifted 6 inches off the truck frame. Remove 4 bolts towards the rear of the bed, end loosen but do not remove the 2 bolts towards the front of the bed. Lift bed and remove towing frame.

1. For the Dakota: Remove bumper, retaining all OEM fasteners for reinstallation.
Proceed to Step 2.
For the Durango: Prior to removing the bumper, cut and remove the center portion of the bumper and air dam as shown in the photo below. Retain the cut out section of the air dam to fabricate an air deflector in Step 8. Remove the remaining bumper assembly, retaining all OEM fasteners for reinstallation.
2. Clamp the driver-side mount plate to the outside of the driver-side vehicle frame. Make sure the mount alignment tab fits up against the back of the vehicle frame front plate, and the front and rear plate stiffeners are snug against the bottom of the frame. When positioned correctly, mount plate holes align near the center of the vehicle frame.
