Along with the increase of electronic devices used in automobiles, the use of wiring harnesses for power and signal systems on board is growing remarkably. In these circumstances, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the power system should cause troubles on signal systems and other chassis-mounted electronic devices. Wiring harnesses act as the direct transmission lines of EMI, so the shielding has become an essential element of power wiring harness system. Generally, braided shield cables and shielded connectors have been used as the EMI shielding measures on the wiring harnesses. Such measures, however, resulted in the increase in cost and size of wiring harnesses. This paper describes the development of a low-cost shielded construction for high-voltage wiring harnesses applied in Toyota’s hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), new Prius.

The Ultimate Honda Engine Swap Guide

Humankind has made a habit of one-upping the creator when it can benefit in some material sense. We figured out early on that playing matchmaker to an ass and a horse produced a creature with the strength and stamina of a horse, but the nimble sure-footedness of an ass. (That would be a donkey for those of you not up on your cross-breeding techniques.) Given that as enthusiasts, we all want our cars to run like a thoroughbred and handle like, well… an ass, the notion of installing a larger engine in a lighter chassis is appealing. The same rules that apply in nature pertain to the automotive world as well: The more closely related the parent forms, the more likely they are to produce a Read the rest of this entry »

Imagine how easy life would be if all problems could be identified immediately and solutions were listed in a handy manual. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way, but when it comes to your Honda or Acura, you might be so lucky. Through the interpretation of the malfunction indicator lamp (otherwise known as check engine light) and following the troubleshooting process detailed in the Honda/Acura service manuals, the solutions to many engine problems can be identified faster than ever before. Before ECU trouble codes can be read however, you will have to jump the computer on some vehicles first. On all ‘92 and up models (and ‘90–‘91 Accords), the connector that must be jumped must be found underneath the dash. The connector is located near the ECU on Civics and Integras and behind the center console on Preludes and Accords. Its brown and black wires can identify it and it looks like it isn’t plugged in properly.
