installing a b4b on a 1975 buick 455 search result

The Edelbrock Performer #2146 & #2515 intake manifolds will work with 400, 430, and 455 c.i.d. big-block Buick engines. The Performer #2146 is designed to accomodate original cold air induction hoods, while the B4B #2515 relocates the carb pad for optimal fuel distribution. These manifolds optimize performance for engines operating in the idle to 5500 rpm range. They are compatible with OEM carburetors that use a divorced-style or electric choke only; hot air tube models will need to have their choke converted to electric or disabled. These intake manifolds are recommended for street rods and street high performance applications. When used with any mix of aftermarket equipment designed for idle to 5500 rpm operation, the performance increases will be even greater.

Hot steam can escape from the expansion tank when the filler cap is opened. Cover the filler cap with a cloth and unscrew it carefully. Note: When the engine is hot the cooling system is under pressure. Carefully open filler cap on expansion tank to release pressure before starting repair work. Hoses are secured with spring-type clips. When repairing only use spring-type clips. VAG 1921 pliers are recommended when installing spring-type clips. The O-rings installed at the quick-release connections must be replaced if damaged or leaking. When installing coolant hoses, make sure that they are free of stress and do not come into contact with other components (observe markings on coolant connection and hose). Perform leak test on cooling system with cooling system tester VAG 1274 and adapter VAG 1274/8.

A Buick V6 has 11:1 compression, a high energy ignition and turns 5,000 rpm. With the specifications given, you will have to retard the timing for the high compression, low rpm and high energy ignition. By comparing the engine’s specifications against the chart, a usable timing guideline can be found. Engines with a combination of items from both columns will require a timing that is set in the mid range.

Following these procedures will guide you in correctly indexing the distributor assembly and initially setting the ignition timing advance.
1: The first step in this procedure is to insure that the #1 piston is brought to the top dead center (TDC) firing position. The firing position is TDC between the piston’s upward compression stroke and the subsequent downward power stroke. To achieve # 1 TDC firing position, perform either one of the following tasks.
