The Aviator, which debuted last year, is (like the Mercury Mountaineer) based on the Explorer, Ford’s bestselling, mid-size 16-foot SUV. Although the Lincoln derivative is fundamentally the same as the others, there are a number of significant differences. Lincoln ditched the Explorer’s steering rack in favor of variable-assist and variable-ratio steering gear. The shocks and springs are also exclusive to the Aviator, and its interior is very much Lincoln, being swathed in fine leather, satin nickel, and burled walnut. The second row comes as either a three-passenger bench or with two outboard seats and a center console. There’s just one engine available, a 4.6-liter, DOHC 32-valve V-8 that produces 302 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. And the standard five-speed automatic transmission is the best Ford slushbox we’ve ever sampled. For 2004, a tire-pressure monitor is standard, and roll-stability control is optional.

Along with the increase of electronic devices used in automobiles, the use of wiring harnesses for power and signal systems on board is growing remarkably. In these circumstances, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the power system should cause troubles on signal systems and other chassis-mounted electronic devices. Wiring harnesses act as the direct transmission lines of EMI, so the shielding has become an essential element of power wiring harness system. Generally, braided shield cables and shielded connectors have been used as the EMI shielding measures on the wiring harnesses. Such measures, however, resulted in the increase in cost and size of wiring harnesses. This paper describes the development of a low-cost shielded construction for high-voltage wiring harnesses applied in Toyota’s hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), new Prius.

Note: You must be able to gain access underneath the vehicle in order to remove and replace sections of the intake system. Always ensure the vehicle is securely raised before working underneath.
Step 1: Remove Factory Intakes & Air Box Remove engine cover.
Using basic tools, disconnect all hoses and electrical connectors attached to the factory intake tubes. Disconnect and remove intakes and remove factory air box & air filter assembly. On the rear, the factory “S” boot connecting to the rear turbo remains.
Optional Step: Modifying Your Factory Air Box Scoop
From the factory, the air box features a “scoop” at the front of the vehicle to direct outside air in. You can make a cut to create a scoop that serves this same function with the new air intake:
