A musty/mildew type odor may come from the vents when the air conditioning (A/C) system is operating. It is most noticeable when the A/C is first turned ON. This odor is the result of mold growth in the A/C evaporator/ cooling unit which is caused by condensation, dust, and pollen within the cooling unit. This condition is usually worse during high humidity conditions. “Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating” is available to encapsulate the mold to reduce odors. Welcome to the 2007 season of the MX-5 Cup. We are looking forward to an even better season than we had in 2006. We are aware of the perceived, and real, problems that occurred during the 2006 season. The majority of the problems revolved around mechanical issues. Some of the problems were due to the late date at which the series came together. Some of the issues were due to the staff having to learn what the particular issues of this new series were. There are several things that we are doing to improve the series for the 2007 season.
Chief Steward – Jim Rogaski, from the San Francisco Region, will be the new series chief steward. Pat diNatale will be helping Jim at the first race to help him transition into the particular issues that come with operating a professional series, particularly on a street course. Morris Hamm will be moving over to World Challenge to work with Pat diNatale as the Assistant Chief Steward. We will send out Jim’s contact information in the near future.

Miata introduced in fall of 1989 with a base price of $13,800. Originally designed as a $7,500 sports car, dollar-to-yen fluctuations drove the price up a couple of years before its introduction. The Miata Club of America is started months before the auto’s release in anticipation of the reaction the auto will provoke. Demand far surpasses supply. Some dealers are asking and receiving twice the sticker price for the first six months. Because of the Miata’s introduction, Automobile Magazine starts an annual tradition of naming one car the Automobile of the Year. The first award goes to the Miata. “Most Fun” Autoweek, Chicago Auto Show Road & Track names the Miata one of the five best cars on Earth, along side of a Mercedes, BMW and Porsche.

You should have confidence in your mechanical abilities before attempting the following procedure. Read through this entire document in advance and have the factory service manual (FSM) available for any specific maintenance practices, procedures, and torque specifications. This write up is intended to severe as documentation of my project and act as a guide for others looking to do similar work. I think those following along at home will find the technical details surrounding the MegaSquirt (MS) setup and tuning the most daunting, so that’s where I’ll provide the greatest detail. To that end, I plan to cover MS board and version selection, circuit mods, wiring, and tuning in as much detail as possible so that this can serve as a reference guide for others.

Read these installation instructions before starting:
1. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, then raise the car and place on safety stands. NEVER work under a car supported only by a floor jack! Remove the front wheels.
2. Remove the three (3) plastic screws which attach the wheel-well inner plastic – both sides. (Photo A)
3. Remove the two (2) sheet metal screws from the plastic panel ahead of the wheel-well to gain access to forward subframe nuts. (Photo B & C)
4. Unscrew the two (2) 15mm head securing bolts from the left end of the steering rack using a 30″ extension and universal joint. (Access these bolts as shown in Photos D & E. Guide the socket extension through the opening as shown and have an assistant position the socket head onto the bolt.) This process allows access to the steering rack bolts and avoids undue stress on the steering column during the following steps.
