For rear disc pad removal and installation, DO NOT disconnect brake hose from caliper (wire aside). Replace all pads on an axle if wear indicator on any pad contacts rotor or if pad is worn to within .03″ (.8 mm) of pad backing.

1. Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Using “C” clamp, compress caliper piston until it bottoms out in its bore.

Installation: Jack up the front of the vehicle and secure with jack stands. Refer to the shop manual and remove front wheels, calipers, rotors and flex hoses. These brake parts will not be reused. After disconnection of the flex hoses from the chassis hard lines, it is a good idea to plug the hard lines to prevent excessive brake fluid loss and entry of air into the system. Small (3/16″ diameter) rubber or soft plastic plugs are usually available from your local automotive parts store and work well.

Most 17” wheels will clear the outer diameter of the caliper of the Eclipse Big Brake Kit. However, the more critical clearance is the gap between the spokes of the wheel and the face of the caliper. Do not assume a 19, 20 or even 24 inch wheel will clear the face of the caliper. The actual metal-to-metal distance measured from the stock rotor face to the inside of the wheel spokes metal distance measured from the stock rotor face to the inside of the wheel spokes is 60.27 mm for the 328mm Eclipse Gen 1 & 2 kit.

Rear Disc Brake Conversion

The rear disc brake system consists of a solid rear disc brake rotor (5) and a single-piston rear disc brake caliper. The rear brake pads and linings are held in position between the rear disc brake caliper and the rear disc brake rotor by two guides, two shims, and an M-spring. It is not necessary to remove the rear disc brake caliper completely to replace the rear brake pads and linings; the rear brake pads and linings can be removed simply by pivoting the rear disc brake caliper on its rear disc support bracket.

A MacPherson strut-type suspension is used. Suspension consists of a vertically mounted strut and coil spring
assembly. Top of strut assembly is mounted to chassis frame; bottom is mounted to a ball joint, bolted to lower
