How To install CAM on a Dodge 4.7

This HowTo will go into the requirements, tools and procedure to remove and install a CAM on a Dodge 4.7 liter Engine.

Pre-Install Tips
Step 1
• Set TOP Dead Center (TDC) So V8 marks on both Sprockets are at 12 O’clock!/Crank balancer TDC mark should be aligned to TDC mark on block!
Step 2
• Mark One Link on Chain at (TDC) V8 marks with paint Pen!
Step 3
• Zip Tie Chain to Cam Sprockets (Through two holes in left sprocket and one hole in right sprocket)! Note: Do this after loosening sprocket bolt but before removing bolt and sprocket!

The steps of timing belt installation for this 1993 Mercury Villager LS.
Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove covers from below engine. Drain cooling system. Remove right front wheel and engine side cover. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley. 2. Remove upper radiator hose and water inlet hose. Remove A/C compressor idler pulley and bracket. Remove water pump pulley. Remove upper and lower timing belt front covers. See Fig. 1 . 3. Temporarily install crankshaft pulley bolt so crankshaft can be rotated. Set cylinder No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke by rotating crankshaft until marks on camshaft sprockets align with marks on timing belt upper rear cover, and mark on crankshaft sprocket aligns with mark on front cover housing. See Fig. 2 . 4. Loosen timing belt tensioner nut. Release tension on belt. Remove timing belt. Check timing belt tensioner, spring and timing belt.

Removal (Frontier, Pathfinder, QX4 & Xterra)
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove the engine undercover. Drain coolant and remove the radiator.
Remove engine cooling fan and water pump pulley. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove spark plugs.
2. Remove distributor protector. Remove A/C compressor drive belt idler bracket. Remove fresh air intake
tube from rocker cover. Remove thermostat housing hose.
3. Rotate crankshaft to set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke. See Fig. 1 . Remove crankshaft
pulley bolt and remove crankshaft pulley. Remove front upper and lower timing belt covers. See Fig. 2 .
4. Align punch mark on left camshaft sprocket with punch mark on timing belt upper rear cover. Align
punch mark on crankshaft sprocket with notch on oil pump housing. See Fig. 3 . Install crankshaft pulley
bolt so that crankshaft can be rotated.

This application is an interference engine. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is removed, or engine damage may occur.
Removal NOTE: Front lock carrier (radiator support) must be moved forward to remove timing belt. 1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front, lower engine cover. Lower vehicle. Separate release lever from hood lock. Remove front bumper cover. See Fig. 1 . Remove bumper carrier from impact damper. 2. Unbolt air duct between lock carrier and air cleaner on lock carrier. This timing belt installation is supported for Lexus 3.0L V6 – 1999-03 ES300. Removal (ES 300)
1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right side front wheel. Remove right fender apron seal. Remove accessory drive belts. Lower vehicle. Disconnect engine coolant reservoir hose from water outlet. Disconnect ground strap connectors. 2. Remove engine moving control rod and engine mounting bracket No. 2 (right side), located near timing belt cover. Remove generator-to-engine bracket for access to timing belt covers. 3. Using Pulley Holder (09213-54015) or equivalent and Handle (09330-00021) or equivalent, hold crankshaft pulley. 1. To ensure the valves will not hit the pistons, the crankshaft must NOT be at top dead center (TDC) at the start of this procedure.
2. Turn the camshaft and drive sprocket to align the timing mark on the sprocket with the timing mark on the timing cover.
3. Install the No. 536594 and No. 536595 locking tools to hold the camshafts in time.
4. Rotate the crankshaft to TDC #1
