Air Cleaner Element, Fuel Filter

The fuel filter should be replaced every 4 years or 60,000 miles (96,000 km), whichever comes first.
Have a qualified mechanic change the fuel filter. Since the fuel system is under pressure, fuel can spray out and create a hazard if all fuel line connections are not handled correctly.
The filter may require replacement sooner if you happen to buy one or more tankfuls of contaminated fuel. Have the filter tested or replaced if you suspect it has been clogged by contaminants.

The engine control unit has a self-diagnosis capability. Before carrying out repairs and fault finding the fault memory must be interrogated. The vacuum hoses and connections must also be checked (unmetered air).
- Fuel hoses in engine compartment must only be secured with spring-type clips. Clamping-type or screw-type clips must not be used.

Volkswagen and Audi consider the transmission to be filled for life – considering how many folks sell/total a car before 100k miles, this may well be true. But for the rest of us who enjoy keeping a multikilo buck expenditure around for a while, keeping the transmission happy should be a top priority – diluting fluid which has broken down due to heat, removing wear-in metal particles from the pan magnets, etc. For the most part, just changing the fluid every 30k miles should ensure a long life, with a proper filter change and fluid flush every now and then. Of course, at this point the issue of the “sealed” transmission pops up and ruins everyone’s day. We should be worried about overfilling the tranny, right?

2000-2002 Audi S4 RS4 K04 Fueling Kit

The AWE Tuning RSK04 Fueling Kit picks up where the Audi RS4 leaves off! AWE Tuning worked very closely with GIAC to establish the proper mechanical parameters which would overcome limitations in the RS4 that GIAC documented during chip development. The RS4 Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and fuel injectors are inappropriate for use on an S4, and we also had our sights set even higher than chipped RS4 territory with the RSK04 kit.

I used an BMK-13 By-Pass Oil Filter System Kit for a 5.3-liter gasoline Chevrolet V8. I have measured and my installation will also work for 4.8 / 5.3 / 6.0 Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac. I fabricated a custom steel bracket that simply bolts up to the alternator bracket. I backed out and used the main support bolt for the alternator. I also used two smaller bolts to Read the rest of this entry »

The components in this Fuel Injection Test Kit enable the testing of the fuel delivery pressure to the engine. Pressure Gauge (1) connections are made either directly to the pump, or in-line with the pump and engine.
1. Relieve the fuel line pressure from the vehicle fuel system. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual for instruction on relieving pressure from the fuel line, testing procedures and connection points, and normal pressure readings.
2. Use the various fittings and hoses to connect the Pressure Gauge (1) directly to the fuel pump, as in the case of the VW®, or in-line with the fuel pump and engine for most other vehicles. See connection examples on the next page.
Use a small amount of pipe compound or teflon tape on the connection threads to prevent leaks. Tighten using a wrench (not supplied).
Caution: Make sure all connections are tight to avoid fuel leaks.

Fuel Pump Circuit Schematic Refer to the schematic diagram and test the system with the diagnostic chart. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION IN “D-CHECK” MODE 1. Connect “Test Mode” connector. [1] 2. Turn ignition “ON.” 3. Check fuel pump for proper operation. Fuel pump should cycle on and off. [1]
Refer to “How To Display and Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes” in COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS.
1. Disconnect relay connector and remove relay from its bracket. 2. Measure resistance of relay coil between terminals #1 and #3. It should read 70 Ohms. 3. Connect 12V to relay coil terminals and check continuity between switching terminals. Connect battery “+” to terminal #1 and battery “-” to terminal #3. Relay should “click” when energized.
