Congratulations on your purchase of the AWE Tuning Exhaust System for the 00-> VW Golf/Jetta/New Beetle with 1.8T or VR6 engine. Exquisite build quality with industry leading performance distinguishes this exhaust system from all others. Our system also features complete T304 Stainless Steel construction, including the internal parts of the muffler. Installation of this exhaust can be completed on jack stands or ramps. Never work under a vehicle only supported by a jack. If you do not feel comfortable installing this system yourself, contact a local professional for installation.
Installation of this exhaust system is very straight for- ward.
1. Remove the OEM exhaust system. This requires cutting the OEM system at the bend before the rear axle beam.
2. Installation of the AWE exhaust is reverse of OEM removal. For installation on a vehicle that did not have an exhaust tip cut out from the factory, see page 2.
3. Note that there are several adjustment points on the AWE exhaust to ensure proper fitment. Also note that the factory exhaust hangers are also adjustable with slotted bolt holes to allow further adjustments. Adjustment points on the AWE exhaust system are at arrows in Figure 1.
4. When installing the midpipe, leave the front locating clamp loose until all adjustments have been completed. Note that the clamp installs with the longer post on the passenger side of the car (at arrow in Figure 2).
5. After adjustments have been completed and clearances verified, install the enclosed serrated lock washers on the clamp post sections extending past the rubber hangers on the inlet of the rear muffler (at arrow A in Figure 3) and on the tailpipes. Use a small hammer to fully seat the washer on the post ends. The washers will keep the exhaust centered and prevent it from shifting sideways. Be sure to check clearances at arrow B in Figure 3. Adjust the system so that there is maximum clearance between the exhaust pipe and the axle beam. Once the car is lowered back on the ground, the axle beam will move closer to the exhaust pipe.
